Spirograph Jewelry

I used to love playing with spirographs when I was younger, using different colors and different shapes on top of one and other. So imaging how ecstatic I was when I came across these designs by Miette.

Miette creates beautiful delicate Spirographic jewelry that reminds me on my childhood. The pieces are very unique and can stand alone as a sculptural object.

Are Antique Clocks In Season?

I just spent the day running a few errands and came across a really cute clock necklace from urban outfitters. This seems to be a new trend this season—Antique clocks!

Not only did I notice this clock necklace, but also the clock accessories featured on the front page of Etsy today. So to keep with this current trend here a few cute clock accessories and products.

Bring On The Treasuries

Today has been such a crazy day for me, crazy and exciting. I finally got my tools to start metal smithing and I am having a blast. So far I have managed to solder together a perfect jump ring—on my second go too, as the first time the oven lighter would not light.

But the main thing I have been trying to figure out, is how to properly ventilate the area I am working in. If any metal smiths out their can help me out that would be great.

But back to the main reason for this post, here are the next 5 great treasuries!

Peach Floret Earrings

I just added a new item in my store. A pair of beautiful 'Peach Floret Earrings', perfect for the coming of autumn.

There are three intricately cut flowers, arranged into a floating circle that is then hung from fine silver wire. It will blend seamlessly into the tones found in the falling leaves.

First Video For RavenWorksCa

Finally I have finished my first flash video that showcases a few of the designs available in my Etsy store.

The concept behind this video is the raven in my logo comes to life, and swoops across the screen back and forth all the while rearranging and presenting each piece. I paired one of the songs that can be found in the ‘Amelie’ soundtrack with this video, as it exudes a very dreamlike and whimsical quality that matches perfectly with the mood of the piece.

As this is my first video, I hope to be able to upgrade and improve on it in the future.

This earring is part of my nature inspired series. For this particular piece, Icebergs and the color tones found within was the catalyst.

Getting my first editorial snippet

On Aug 7, 2010, one of the top trend hunters Megan Young posted the first editorial snippet for my small business. I got so excited when I heard about it, and part of me was very proud because starting up your own business can be a very risky venture.

I find that as long as your willing to put in the time and effort, you will reap the rewards. Other than that I am keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping for the best of luck.

Here is a quick screen shot of the published posting.

One of my favorites is the ‘Nut-Brown Victoria Earring’, as this was one of my little achievements. Made out of delicate dried flowers and paired with a silver head pin, this makes an elegant combination.

I was inspired to create this piece after seeing ‘The Young Victoria’, and all the beautiful floral accessories present.

3 New Reasons To Check Out Etsy

Etsy has been around for a long time and is the leader in unique handcrafted products. Is it passe? Has it past its prime? These are the two main questions everyone asks. I personally don't think that etsy is passe, I think the problem is that there are so many sellers, it is difficult to know where to start looking for the product that you want.

There are just too many beautiful things to choose from, so where do you start?
- search by topic eg. Organic
- search by colour
- Check out handpicked items

Here are three new reasons in my opinion to check out Etsy again:

- It is a great place to test market a new business that you want to set up—reasonable posting costs and monthly sales commission.

- Great way to find new talent and craftsman

- An alternative to generic products you find in malls and stores

There are also three new reasons to check out my etsy again, below is the reason why:
There are so many jewelry sellers on etsy now, who are all so talented but how do you choose a great piece that will be timeless—one that you can add to any wardrobe? This is something that I am concerned with when I invest in a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Here are a few key things that I look out for:

- I usually want something very distinctive and different, not necessarily one of a kind but unique

- I generally want something that generates conversation, even over coffee

- A piece that is well designed

- Something that does not rust and can easily be cleaned to return to its pristine state

What do you look out for?

Polymer Clay Jewelry

Polymer clay is quite the popular medium to make jewelry out of, undoubtably a very fun material to explore and experiment with. As a child I never had the opportunity to dabble and create sculptures out of this medium, but I did participate in sculpture classes with clay which then had to be fired in a kiln and glazed.

After finding out about polymer clay, I have been looking into what kinds of jewelry products get made, and how to make them.

I just love the pieces made by the sister duo 'Cleo and Cat', they are incredibly imaginative and creative.
I find their pieces so inspiring, every time I look at their website I just want to go out and buy polymer clay and construct something beautiful.

I plan on saving my money so I can invest in one of their gorgeous pieces because I throughly enjoy wearing one-of-a-kind jewelry.
